It had to be The Salix

Sometimes I think these guys need their own page. It's the question I'm asked the most, no matter how many times I post about them.

The four pinkish white trees are Salix Flamingos and they are absolutely the star of the garden show. I have to admit the idea to plant them in this way came from Anna and her beautiful garden, as soon as I saw them I knew I wanted to fit them into our garden.

We bought them in summer 2020 from a local garden centre and paid about £25 each. When we first planted them they were mixed in with loads of manure that we bought from a seller on FB market place and I really think it is this that has made all the difference.

They are positioned along an East facing wall so get lots of sun and they also love a good soaking when it gets hot in the summer. If they are given the right care and positioned well they are really fast growing and within a couple of years they have flourished.

The pink fades throughout the season and they loose their leaves at the end of Autumn leaving radish brown stems. At the start of March I always give them a good trim to make sure they don't get too big. I did it again last week just as they were starting to bud, you can be really brutal with them as you can see from the photo. I can't wait for these to bloom again this year!

I am in love with your garden and can’t wait to be able to relax in something similar although smaller. I have bought some sleepers and have my Salix ready. I see you have partitions in the sleeper bed, why is this ? is this a must or can I just fill the whole thing with compost ? TIA x
